Upon earning a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Pietro joined the Upstream Research Company at ExxonMobil in Texas as a senior researcher and worked on technological challenges to support drilling, exploration, and production operations. For more than seven years there, he developed and patented a few novel solutions to improve efficiency. After an additional two-year tenure at Chevron Energy Technology Center, he moved to San Francisco, CA, and opened a consulting business to support Silicon Valley start-ups in the areas of business strategy, industrial engineering, and manufacturing scale-up. Since 2018, Pietro serves as expert for Operational Excellence in Global PCT at Covestro in Germany. In this role, he is responsible for evaluating and introducing new technologies to production processes across the business units. Through his extensive experience, he is promoting Industry 4.0 concepts and Agile methodologies to effectively drive digital transformation. He has been very active in the 5G conversation by promoting test deployments of 5G at Covestro and beyond. He currently leads the working group AK4.15 “mobile automation” within NAMUR, the German/EU standardization association for the chemical industry, whose current focus is wireless connectivity for the production environment.
