ExxonMobil has successfully migrated the control and data acquisition for a pilot unit from a legacy Distributed Control System (DCS) to a prototype system based upon Open Process Automation™ concepts. The objective is to demonstrate that the capabilities provided by an automation system aligned with the O-PAS™ principles are sufficient to replace the capabilities required to operate a pilot unit with hydrocarbon feed at typical unit conditions. The pilot unit is an experimental unit used for evaluating catalyst performance and contains 130 I/O points with 500 total tags.
This session will also focus on uses of the NAMUR Module Type Package (MTP) initiative. Evonik will present the results of a process plant pilot project where Evonik worked with multiple automation vendors to utilize MTP standards.
