From the 2021 ARC Industry Forum: Mark Prince of Entergy talks about how they were able to achieve more efficient and effective OT cybersecurity compliance with NERC CIP, as well as increased reliability in operations. This presentation provides a great overview of the challenges faced by power producers in complying with NERC CIP cybersecurity regulations and provides insight into Entergy's business objectives and supplier selection process for OT cybersecurity. Mark discusses Entergy's implementation of solutions from Verve Industrial to provide a centralized, vendor-agnostic environment and an integrated security platform that encompasses anomaly and breach detection, SIEM, endpoint management, device inventory, and other functions.

In this latest of our series of interviews with industrial cybersecurity leaders for the ARC Industry Forum 2021, we talk to Del Rodillas (GICSP) of Palo Alto Networks. Del leads a global team of security experts focused on thought leadership and security solution architectures for IT-OT industries. 

The 25th ARC Industry Forum saw many industry experts present their views on “Accelerating Digital Transformation in the Post-COVID World.”  One of the speakers Mr. Phil Quade, Chief Information Security Officer at Fortinet, spoke with Sid Snitkin, Vice President, Cybersecurity Services at ARC Advisory Group. Here are a few key takeaways from the interview.

Many industrial companies have passive cybersecurity programs that can’t deal with today’s sophisticated threat environment or ensure the security of broad remote worker enablement and digital transformation programs. Industrial companies need active defense programs that can stop sophisticated attackers before they impact operations and threaten worker safety. Many see IT-OT Cybersecurity Convergence as a cost-effective way to address today’s and tomorrow’s cybersecurity challenges. The recent ARC Industry Forum, which was held virtually this year for the first time, included a substantial cybersecurity program, and managing this convergence of IT and OT cybersecurity domains was discussed in several sessions.

As part of our ongoing series of executive interviews for the 2021 ARC Industry Forum, we sat down with aDolus CEO and industry cybersecurity luminary Eric Byres to talk about some of the most pressing problems facing end-users in industrial cybersecurity.  Eric was the inventor of the Tofino security appliance, which was the first firewall specifically designed for industrial applications.  Eric's current company aDolus tackles a different but no less vexing problem, the vulnerability of industrial systems to supply chain hacks through malware-laden updates and patches similar to what we saw with the SolarWinds attack.
