Yoshiharu Amano
Professor, Faculty of Science and Engineering
Waseda University

Dr. Amano received a Doctor degree of Engineering at Waseda University in March 1998. He was an Associate Professor of the Research Center for Science and Engineering at Waseda University from 2002-2008.  He served as a Visiting Professor of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne in 2008-2009.  Dr. Amano has been in his current position since 2008, and presently, he is engaged in the development of modeling methods for efficiency improvement and overall optimization of energy systems and related equipment, as well as system evaluation and design. In the field of robotics, he is developing various sensor systems based on high-precision self-positioning technology and conducting research related to outdoor autonomous movement. He is the director of the Industrial Open-Network Laboratory (IONL) at Waseda Research Institute for Science and Engineering, Waseda University. Since 2003, IONL has provided state-of-the-art digital communications technology to engineers in both process and discrete manufacturing industries. IONL is constructed with three sections collaborating with leading industrial organizations: FieldComm Group, IO-Link Community Japan in PROFIBUS & PROFINET Japan, and FDT Group Japan. He is an expert in IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) TC65/JWG14 and JWG17 to establish international standards regarding Energy Efficiency in Industrial Automation. He is a member of the Japan Society of Energy and Resources, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE), and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers(JSME).
