Dr. Takashi Washio completed the doctoral program at the Department of Nuclear Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University in 1988.  From 1988 to 1990, he was a visiting Researcher of the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After working at Mitsubishi Research Institute from 1990 to 1996, he has been an associate professor at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Osaka University since 1996, and has been in his current position since 2006. His research ranges from discovering regularity, concepts and knowledge embedded in complex structural data and large amounts of data, to exploring the principles of machine learning and data mining, to industrial application. He is a member of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, the Society for Instrument and Control Engineers, the Japan Statistical Society, the IEEE Computer Society, and the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).
