One of the highlights of the upcoming ARC Industry Forum (Feb. 5-8 at the Renaissance Orlando Sea World) is the Monday cybersecurity workshop, which includes sponsored luncheon sessions from leading OT cybersecurity suppliers. On Monday at 12:15 PM you can attend a session hosted by Fortinet on the art and science of securing-physical systems. The session will be hosted by Rod Locke and Rich Springer of Fortinet.  Here's the session description:

Cy-Phy EnvironmentsIndustrial organizations are on alert as bad actors see critical infrastructure as low-hanging fruit. Ransomware variants, phishing emails, wiper malware, and more show up as tactics used to disrupt operational environments. As digital transformation grows, cyber-physical systems increase the number of users, devices, and applications connecting to the network. For most organizations, this positively affects efficiency but also increases risk, expanding the attack surface for industrial organizations. 

Protecting cyber-physical systems is a bit art and a bit science.  Cy-Phy leverages new technologies – things like IIoT, AI, and 5G – to fundamentally change how the industrial environment works.  When you marry the new with the old, there is a delicate balance for securing these systems requiring an artful approach to protect them without disrupting production systems.  Converging IT/OT networks connects physical sensors, gauges and other industrial devices for continuous monitoring and provides insight from the data they provide improving decision making and reducing risk. 

During this session, we will look at strategic principles for securing cyber-physical systems including understanding the evolving threat landscape and the impact on the mix of modern and legacy technology.  The session will lean into the value provided by using a platform approach for broad integration and the power of automation to improve security for industrial environments.
